#30 - The Power of Algae: Spirulina & Chlorella - Catharine Arnston

The phycocyanin, that blue pigment that is in the spirulina has been studied and found to intercept the receptor cell so the virus cannot attach (in response to how algae can help with COVID19)

In this week’s podcast I had the pleasure of interviewing the founder and creator of Energybits, Catharine Arnston. Energybits is a brand of algae, specifically spirulina and chlorella. You might be wondering why on earth I’d talk about something like algae, a green plant found at the bottom of oceans and swamps. Well, Catharine has been fascinated with algae for over 10 years, since her sister was first diagnosed with cancer and the doctor told her she needed to eat more alkaline foods. Catharine geeked out on alkaline types of foods and stumbled upon algae and all the amazing health benefits. She couldn’t believe how much research had been poured into the amazing health benefits of algae but that no one was really promoting it.

Spirulina for example is loaded with over 40 vitamins and minerals. It has one of the highest sources a protein and is extremely low calorie, so that people on a keto diet can still eat it and remain in ketosis. It also has a ton of B Vitamins, which is great for energy production and is why many endurance athletes are a fan of Catharine’s Energybits. Spirulina has also been shown to be anti-viral, and can penetrate the cell walls of virus, a possible great biohack for coronavirus (Spirulina & COVID)

Chlorella on the other hand is great for recovery and removing toxins such as mercury, lead, and other toxins from the body. Chlorella is rich in iron and is great for cellular clean up and anti-aging. Because chlorella is a rich in iron, it might. be a great ‘hack’ for COVID-19, as they are now realizing that COVID is ripping away iron from the blood, causing a loss of hemoglobin and heart attacks (COVID19: hemoglobin, iron, hypoxia beyond inflammation). Spirulina has also shown to be helpful with enriching the blood with oxygen specifically in anemic patients (Spirulina and anemia with Immune Function in Senior Citizens)

Needless to say, I’ve been ingesting Energybit algae tabs for years (my kids really like the chlorella), and after interviewing Catharine, I am even more impressed with the health benefits of spirulina and chlorella, When you look at all the health benefits just in terms of coronavirus, you can’t help but realize all the downstream effects you can experience due to eating algae: lowering inflammation, enriching your blood with oxygen, providing your essential nutrients, and much more.

This was an amazing episode! Be sure to check out Catharine at www.energybits.com for more info and enter the PROMO code “JOEL” for 20% off.
